Wait For Me. Not, Wait, For Me. Poem by Mary Jesusa Villegas

Wait For Me. Not, Wait, For Me.

for Russel

Wait for me. Not, wait, for me.
Wait for my stance about love
I thought that I was gonna be courageous
Enough to enter relationships
Like that.
When it strikes me.
And it is fast.
But I want to slow down.
I want to grow alone
Not miserably but independently
And I don’t know if I love you
Or
You’re just my best friend
And you always provoke me.
And I want to preserve
My solitude.
I will never grow if I
Give in.
I will be
Disconnected to Him.
If I let you
In.
No way!
It’s not gonna happen
And the love that I’m sure of
The love that I’m okay with
Is our evolving friendship.
I told you.
I’m a geek.
And not yet free
I’m a slave of poverty
Wait for me when I’m twenty
When I know my stance about love.
I’m sorry. I don’t know
I f I can ever love
This is my disability.
And if ever my love for you is love,
I don’t want us to end up like lovers
Punching each other’s
Faces.

No. Wait for me.
Not, wait, for me.
