Waited In Vain Poem by Achieng' Ochieng'

Waited In Vain

I wish I was the painting on your wall,
Whose color and ambience is a sight you behold,
Its texture, a true feel of reality
Its perfection, without a question
A true reflection of you!
For if I were,
You would look at me with pride and admiration
But unlike the painting, I would smile back at you

I wish I was the flower in your vase
Whose beauty and splendor
Dazzles you, though lifeless
With care, you place it on point for your eye's pleasure
With a simple dust you bring it to life!
For if I were,
You would care for me with attention and affection
And unlike the flower and the vase, I would jump with delight!

I wish I was the silver ware in your rack
For each day you clean and polish them
So they lose not their glitter and glam
And put them where they belong
Looking new each time!
For if I were,
You would caress me with tenderness
And unlike the silver ware, I would reach back to you in gladness!

But,
I am not that painting on your wall,
Neither the flower in your vase,
Nor the silverware in the rack.
I am a heart beaming with love,
Love for you to embrace
Love that is patient, kind, selfless and timeless
Love that has longed to warm yours till we got old n' cold

Love,
That like the painting on the wall,
I hang for you to reach out to
And like the flower in the vase,
I presented each time you came close
And like the silverware in the rack, I let glow
But for some reason,
That love groped in the dark of your world

I wish it illuminated that world,
For the night has been too long
And my heart has desired a new dawn
Even if not in words, something to behold
It seems though; it has waited in vain
And now, I smell the morning dew n'
Soon, it will be a brand new day
And my love will have a new home
