Wanting Approval Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Wanting Approval

Everything given,
To a spoiled child...
Ultimately is broken.
Into pieces and bits.
Destroyed beyond recognition.
Yet permitted and allowed the doing,
The more of this to commit.

And unrestricted to know of limits,
This child grows to be...
A menace to society.
Yet...
Amazingly solicits assitance from those,
Convinced of an innocence...
The devilish charm from this 'child' shows.
To become defended by so many,
That all this 'child' only sought and wanted...
Had been approval and trust from others to get.
With an understanding to be understood.
The doing of their intentions,
Was only meant to prove to do for others...
Just good!

"Who...
In their right mind,
Would believe that nonsense? "

I'm sorry.
I can not hear you.
What did you say?
That thunderous applause,
Is coming from that stadium across the street.

"I know.
Must be a very popular rock band in town.
I said...
WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND,
WOULD BELIEVE SUCH UNBELIEVABLE NONSENSE? "

THAT UNBELIEVABLE NONSENSE TO BELIEVE,
IS COMING FROM THAT STADIUM.
PACKED WITH FOLKS READY TO DISAGREE.
AND NOT ONLY THAT.
WILL LEAVE THAT PLACE,
PREPARED TO ATTACK YOU!

"NO! "

YES.
AND I'LL RAISE THAT 'YES',
FOR A SIX PACK OF BEER.

"LET'S GO!
LET'S GET OUTTA HERE! "

FOR THE BEER?

"NO!
I DIDN'T ACCEPT YOUR BET! "
