Was There Poem by Eric Mwenda

Was There

I have been at the bottom of sea,
seen the darkness that lurks there,
felt the smoothering pressure
in all directions,
i cried
weighed with desperation to rise

I found i in dungeons,
walls too strong to crush,
silence there so defeaning.
Could have gone mad,
in cells of my making

I have felt hope drain away,
seen my dreams shutter and scatter
like shadows at sunrise,
i knocked on doors
of sweet seductive world of insanity
yes i was there
Nowhere
Faithless

But then,
like a bud opens up in summer,
i learnt to relax
accepted my plight
rose to the challenge

here now i stand
A shame to failure>
