We Buried Him Yesterday Poem by Robert Denton

We Buried Him Yesterday

We get traumatized by some of the most natural occurrences like the death of a parent or friend or sister and brother. I feel numb and lost after the passing of my father. We buried him yesterday, well, he was cremated and we had a memorial. Fortunately, he was a terrific person and loving father. We have such good memories of him which is a good thing, but oddly it intensifies the feeling of loss.

What bothers me is how people say, 'oh, he's in a better place' or 'he's looking down upon us' or 'he's with Jesus now ' or 'he is in peace in heaven' as if they truly believe what they are saying. But they don't know. And I don't know. The man has died, he is not here, he is not breathing, he is not alive, so don't say that he lives on because that is a lie.

People seek comfort in the strangest places and in the strangest ways. Humans live in denial and love it. I personally hate it. Denial is false. It is a rejection of reality. It is a rejection of truth and fact.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Aw.. I'm sorry for your loss. This is a really nice write and I agree, denial is a rejection of reality. But sometimes, that's the only thing that can shield a person from the burden of their lives.. That's probably why some people choose to live in denial. The reality can be too much for them.. Although, it is wrong to do so Take care and God bless, Curly Mer.
