What It's Like Poem by Mark Hopwood

What It's Like

You don't know what it's like
To need someone to hold you and be there for you
You don't know how it feels
To be totally alone in everything you do,

You don't know what it's like
when comfort is your boney arms wrapped around yourself
You don't know how it feels
To be left behind, dusty up on a high shelf,

You don't know what it's like
To need to cry so badly but to not have a shoulder
You don't know how it feels
When the warmth all around you makes you feel colder,

You don't know what it's like
To live in a world where you can never belong
You don't know how it feels
When you know thats it's right but it feels so wrong,

You don't know what it's like
To sit alone in the nightmares of the mind
You don't know how it feels
To be like a coil that can never unwind,

You don't know what it's like
To need to be touched and loved so bad
You don't know how it feels
When the thought of dying makes you glad,

You don't know what it's like
To need to touch love and to feel again
You don't know how it feels
To be far away, on a different plain
You don't know what it's like.
