What Was It Poem by Izik Alcox

What Was It

Was it the blazing sun that burnt your eye, long enough to hear my sigh
Was it I who hurt you or the truth, your still encased in your youth
Was it the pretentiousness of your life, that drove you to another strife
Was it the appeal of the crowd, flashy lights, and feeling proud
Was it really as you claim, not some warped feeling of shame
Was it the reality that hits so hard, looking back it was me who got scarred
Was it love and all that it means, what you thought was blown to smithereens
Was it guilt that made you cry, as you ran away from your mind's eye
Was it separation that you needed, or a lust for your unheeded
Was it my unwavering belief, that gave no relief
Was it the way I tried to show you, through example you'd construe
Was it all the questions you never wanted to ask,
Hiding from it all you return to your mask
Sorry s are best served in actions
Not hollow word reactions
