One river gives
Its journey to the next.
We give because someone gave to us.
We give because nobody gave to us.
We give because giving has changed us.
We give because giving could have changed us.
We have been better for it,
We have been wounded by it—
Giving has many faces: It is loud and quiet,
Big, though small, diamond in wood-nails.
Its story is old, the plot worn and the pages too,
But we read this book, anyway, over and again:
Giving is, first and every time, hand to hand,
Mine to yours, yours to mine.
You gave me blue and I gave you yellow.
Together we are simple green. You gave me
What you did not have, and I gave you
What I had to give—together, we made
Something greater from the difference.
If giving is for fulfillment, it has to be linked with receiving. Ultimate result is happiness; happiness of giving and happiness of receiving. Mind pricking and Thought provoking. Thanks for sharing.
Great expressions of give and take policy which is essential for a modern community.
You gave me blue and I gave you yellow. Together we are simple green. You gave me.... Great expressions about give and take among people in the society. This reminds me of a couplet by Bihari, a 16th centuri Hindi Poet. It is about Hindu God Krishna and her beloved Radha. It says that when the shadow of yellow complexioned Radha falls on Blue complexioned Krishna, the colour of Lord Krishna turns from blue to green. Here is the original couplet: मेरी भववाधा हरौ, राधा नागरि सोय। जा तन की झाँई परे स्याम हरित दुति होय।। (झाँई = छाया, स्याम = श्याम, दुति = द्युति = प्रकाश) राधा जी के पीले शरीर की छाया नीले कृष्ण पर पड़ने से वे हरे लगने लगते है।
