When I Lay To Sleep Poem by Bolami lawal

When I Lay To Sleep

I wait untill night when i lay to sleep
When the sun retired and the stars awake
When darkness paraded its worth
And all men lay as dead

Then pondered i; on the day that ends
Another hope that just demised
With all the zest and illusive craves
The promises that sprout at the break of dawn
The gleams and glitterings that began the day
Still; drenched in sweat man lay to sleep.

So, as this day; likewise life too....
Of what essence is fame after fame
Of what regard is greed in all its valor
To whom do we hold our honour
When we lay cold in the grave
When might and power extinct
When our quest comes to a sudden halt
And our fist gives up its guard
When life demands that which we owed
And man in all his rise and glory lay to rest

So, with all the voracity and man's pursuit
So, with all the wealth and man's affluence
Unrepentant strife that ruled his will
Man would someday lay cold and still as clay
When death as sleep; shall tame his will
