When I Settle Down Poem by Randy McClave

When I Settle Down

Maybe when I get older I will settle down
Then I will wear life with a slowness and a frown,
Maybe then I will find an old woman to be at my side
Then rocking in our chairs, will be our only exciting ride.
We will probably go to bed every night about eight
Then we'll be up every morning, I will say about daybreak,
We will do the same things as we did the day before
Life will then be long, and repetitive, and a bore.
We will sit at the table and we will sort out our pills
Then we will sit and complain about our medical bills,
Our morning breakfast will be the same, as it we will share
We will become fixtures, as though we have always been there.
I will then probably reminisce when I was younger and free
Excitement then was life, and it was always about me,
I now have the money that I have kept for that one rainy day
Now for my funeral it is saved for, I will sadly say.
