When Will Our Messiah Come? Poem by Owoyeye Oluwafemi Ebenezer

When Will Our Messiah Come?

When Will Our Messiah Come?
Anger festers in our hearts
Grey and black are our thoughts
Our pleads are unheared
We knew no joy but hurt
In our secret conference
We vowed to retrieve our confidence
We applauded ourselves for every point raised
We bid our gods to bless and grace the day
In which we would let go of our fears, shed the veil and see light rays
We danced and pranced as we recite our watchword;

``The bones shall rise again
And from the cinders a fire shall be awoken
Renewed shall be our spirit that was long broken
We destitutes shall reign again
For the time is near when a beacon of hope from the shadow shall spring
Then we shall live as king
``
We tutored ourselves on how to fight the good fight
We say to ourselves, this land is ours
And if blood must be shed, it would't matter for it is our birthright
We make an oath not fall victim to those cabals
We fasted and prayed so hard
For a heavenly sent saviour
That would fight our war
One so great in deeds of valour
The one that would liberate us and strenghten our dampened spirit
Day by day we pray, hope and wish coming Saviour Godspeed
@ 56, here we are doing nothing while hoping
That the future would glitter and glow
