When You Were Mine Poem by Kim Davies

When You Were Mine

When you were mine
I held you, nursed you, caressed you.
I watched you sleep.

When you were mine
we laughed, we played,
we danced, we sang.
I watched you grow
We'd read, we'd write, we'd draw,
cut, stick, paint.
I watched you learn.
I kissed better your cuts and grazes,
wiped away your tears,
tried to allay your fears.

When you were mine
we walked, we talked,
we planned, we dreamed.
I watched you stretch your wings,
loosen the apron strings,
tug at my heart strings.

While you were still mine
there were parties, girls, cars.
You questioned, argued, rebelled,
pushed the boundaries, bent the rules.
I watched your closed door.
Are you still mine?

Then She was there;
The girl, The one.
I listened, supported, advised,
cried as you severed the ties.

Now you are hers.

This is a beautiful poem. Another tear jerker. Any mum with grown children will empathise with this poem.
