When Your Mother Has A Birthday Poem by Elena Plotkin

When Your Mother Has A Birthday

Rating: 4.0

When your mother has a birthday, it is a huge event!
The presents should be enough to fill a sizeable tent.
The Governor should have a special speech prepared.
The President need not show up, but tweet to show he cared.
The chefs and sous chefs should be up at dawn chopping, sauteeing, cooking, and flambeing.
The bakery staff should be busy loading confections into their van.
The aerialists and orchestra should be limbering up and tuning up as best they can.
The balloon artist should be busy inflating away.
The florist should have a breathtaking eyecatching display.
The celebrities should be on call just in case the Governor drops the ball.
The photographers should linger but never hover.
Afterall, these photos are for several magazine covers.
The grandkids should be freshly scrubbed and dressed to the nines;
And should stay that way well past dinnertime.
And just as the airplane airwrites the words "Happy Birthday"
A mother should be on an tropical island, laying back, and drinking her favorite liqour-laced smoothie.
