Where The Cards Lie Poem by Elizabeth Shield

Where The Cards Lie

Steeped in shadow, unrepentant,
Seeing no light in the dark
What good can we make, you and I?
Close together but worlds apart

All of the midnight sensations
Cajole me with welcoming calls
While the shades of twilight twine 'round my ankles
Looking for home in my heart

Fly, I must flee from desire and your eyes,
Into the day you doubt and ignore
Wash my heart with truth and of fire
Flirt with temptation, nevermore
