Where Were You? Poem by Kayla Roberts

Where Were You?

Where were you when I felt so alone?
(Right beside you, even though my face wasn’t shown.)

Where were you when I was searching for your voice?
(Leaving in your heart a little faith, hearing is your choice.)

Where were you when I screamed in vain?
(Soothing your thoughts, calling you by name.)

Where were you when I gave up hope?
(Preparing ahead a much easier slope.)

Where were you when temptation stole me away?
(Trying to stop you before your conscience decayed.)

Where were you when I fell into the arms of sin?
(Patiently waiting for you to notice my arms, too, were open.)

Where were you when the light died in my heart?
(Making the light brighter for a fresh new start.)

Where were you when I got lost within addiction?
(Calling for you, waiting to attain your attention.)

Where were you in the dark pits of my empty soul?
(Reaching for your heart, hoping to grab hold.)

Where were you when the world convinced me you’re not there?
(Tugging at your heart to prove to you I still care.)
