Why? Poem by Brian Marion

Why?

Drinking all night, you wanted to play

You got on his nerve, with him not feeling that way.

He beat you down, threatened to kill

You tempted him more, not getting your fill.

I jumped in the way, risked my life

My leg was stabbed, so I couldn't fight.

He tossed me aside, but handed me the phone

Said to call dad,911, or another home.

You snatched it away, not wanting me to call

I asked you 'Why? ' You said 'Nothing at all.'

To this day, I don't get how

You still keep a man, who can't keep his vow.

I'm your son, your flesh and blood

Yet you labeled me as a playtoy for all his fun.

You made a mistake I can't forgive

And a scar I can't get rid of.

So, enjoy the life I saved for you Mom

Because if it happens again,

I'll be long gone.
