Why Me? Poem by Stephanie Campbell

Why Me?

Why me Lord? Why not someone else?
Why did You choose me as someone to help?
My family is happy, my parents in love,
My brother and sister neither push nor shove.
I have all I need in my home to live,
Happy and comfortable and able to give.
I heard about you from the day I was born,
I have rarely struggled with doubt or with scorn.
Yet all around me people struggle and suffer,
Some cannot even afford tomorrow night’s supper.
They search and they compensate for what they can’t find,
But Jesus Christ has never entered their minds.
They don’t even know that they don’t know the way,
Because no one has told them that here they don’t stay,
Because Jesus, our Saviour had come to the Earth,
To tell us of love, redemption, and worth.
So that on the day He chooses to come,
We can all go to heaven, as a body of one.
And so I return to my original plight,
Why was I chosen as one to take flight?
To go up to heaven on that great day
And not have to worry where my body will lay.
The answer not easy, although it does come
Is that he has chosen each and every one,
Who love Him, who know Him, who know His great grace,
To stand up, to witness, to stare the world in the face
And tell them the story of what He has done,
In our lives, in our hearts and how He has won.
And so now my answer, I’ve had given to me,
I have all these blessings so that others can see,
I live for my Father, my King up above,
For he has given us this gigantic love.
And so tomorrow I’ll walk out my door,
The guilt and the worry will be no more
I’ll step outside and into the day,
And remember I’m His, forever, always.
