Why Me? Poem by Dallas Carter

Why Me?

I'm really confused right now.
Sometimes I know exactly what you want me to do,
But other times I just get so lost.
Maybe I'm looking at it wrong.
Maybe it's not something I can even understand.
I scrutinize and I contemplate the meaning behind my life,
Behind your purpose in making me who I am.
You gave me a caring heart to help those in need,
But then you send me people I can't fix.
Then I spend the rest of my life wondering what went wrong,
Why I couldn't stop them from hurting,
Why I'm stuck with a guilty conscience over things I can't change.
I lose sleep worrying about those I care about when in reality,
If they care about me, where are they now?
