Memories Poem by Dallas Carter

Memories

Memories are the one thing that matters more than anything to me,
They hold a priceless power like nothing else in this world.
I am the kind who lives in the past,
Because everyday's a gift, something special to remember.

Over my years, though short in count,
I've many memories stored away, good and bad alike.
I've memories to share and memories to keep,
These memories are my childhood, and all throughout my teens.

Personal experiences are things that have changed me permanently,
And though I don't like all of these memories,
I wouldn't change a single moment,
Of anything that's ever happened to me.

These memories that I speak of
Make me who I am today,
And if ever just one memory was different,
Who I am today wouldn't be the same.

I'm not sure if I'd like that person or not,
But who I am is who I'm meant to be.
Everything happens for a reason known only by God,
And it all leads up to the great plan He has for all of us.

I cannot tell you what He has in store for me,
But I can promise you that every memory I've collected,
Every lesson I've learned, every moment I've experienced,
And every good friend I've made are a part of who I'll always be.

I've experienced love and I've felt pain,
I've had my taste of a little heartbreak.
I've been used and ditched once I was no longer needed,
But he's a part of the past, just a memory to look back on.

Instead of focusing on the bad, I dwell in the good,
Singing hymns at Church, a childhood of Christmas traditions,
Playing in the backyard on summertime holidays,
Hanging out with the good friends that I've made in the past few months.

I'm a sentimental kind of girl to an extent,
Things, papers, poems, drawings, letters, and pictures,
They all hold memories that I tr to keep.
So I can look at them, hold them, and drift away into better memories.

As I go through this life collecting precious memories,
I remember each day and its occurrences,
And gifts given to me by the Father himself.
And as I look back on my life all I can say is that I am blessed.
