Why Must I Toil? Poem by Chuy Amante

Why Must I Toil?

Rating: 5.0

I've been told to work hard and save!
Save for what? And behave?
'Save to have food in your older years son! '

So, is this all about daily bread?

If I can have daily rations without working
is that legit?
Why not? It's all about the food, right?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I choose to not work, per se
to slowly watch the advancing day,
sleep in, have tea and then play and play
You go ahead and your dragons slay
work real hard, don't disobey
slave in seriousness, don't act gay
So when tomorrow comes you can say
'I did it right, when sun shone, made hay'
Now it's time to enjoy away...?
At that point, you will decay
'it's not fair' the wife will say
There for 65 years but gone today...
So how do I do it? there is a trick
not for all, it may make you sick
I enjoy MY food, candles and wick
Each day my girls lay eggs good
Trees replete with yummy food
Before the rain, I chop wood
I live simple, but I am free
a free-for-all, with no duty
Free to see, to do, or BE
ME
Free from all tethers... free as air.... free as the flowing river... not much bothered about which course it would take! Light as a thistledown, floating.... floating..... floating! Enjoyed your philosophy.. Monk! An interesting write!
Work smart but not hard. Your poem reminds me of living a life of freedom with no regrets. Nice.
