Why Should I? Poem by Alicia Renea Carpenter

Why Should I?

I’m stuck in the middle,
Stuck somewhere between the truth and a lie.
How do I know which is right,
And which is left?

Stuck in the middle my whole life.
Never to know the difference
Between reality
And myth.

Who is supposed to show me the way?
Do I figure it out on my own?
Or is someone supposed to lead me?
If so, who is this person supposed to be?

How do I know?
Where do I find the truth?
Who has the answers?
Is the answer even able to be found?

But I don’t give up!
I can’t make myself stop.
I want to find the answer.
I want to find the truth.

So I keep looking
Even though it’s hard.
I know I can do it.
I believe in myself and the people around me.

So I stay strong
Like I’ve always done
I refuse to give up hope
And I refuse to back down.

It’s never been me to sit on the sidelines
Why should I start now?
