Windows To The Soul Poem by Elizabeth Sheaffer

Windows To The Soul

Eyes gleam in the moonlight
Like star-studded emeralds
Strewn across a tranquil sea
Of emotion. Lashes dance in the
Wind like dandelion heads in
A peaceful meadow. Lids lazily
Close like the mouth of a weary
Tiger. Tears slowly well up
Above emeralds, brightly shining
In the night. Teardrops spill
Over feathery lashes, destroying
The peace there and blurring the
Vision. Lids close tightly,
Squeezing out hot emotions
With every tear, mouth open
And alive with mournful cry.
The return of reality breaks
All tranquility once discovered,
And a girl lies bleeding on
The floor, alone, as society
Turns deaf ears and harsh,
Judgmental glances towards her.
