Winter Nights

Winter Nights

winter dreams
in cozy comforters
warm a soul
like lazy dog days

nature's artist paints
Jack Frost window panes
upon a winter's night
with a cold paint brush

intricate patterns of lace
etched snowflakes
silently model
in early morn's glory

awaken memories
of snowball fights
and sugar plums
on a starry winter's night
and moon beams glow magic
across meadow and hill
as I like in incubater warm
lie very still

Kind solace in a dying hour!
Such, father, is not (now) my theme-
I will not madly deem that power
Of Earth may shrive me of the sin
