Wished Upon Poem by Robert Rorabeck

Wished Upon

I live so close to the rivers of
Old people
That you would not believe
Me darling
That last night I got robbed,
But otherwise I have
Never looked so good; and I
Flit after the perps
Singing their gold toothed
Lullabies
And it was fun and exciting;
At the police station
I drew you as a stream
Running through a forest of
Aspen and evergreen just like
That week I drew you in
High school when I just wanted
To sleep underneath
The penumbra of your
Desk across the sky,
For it to be my shelter,
Its cheap metal frame my
Crossbeams,
The chicken wire my stars and
You the goddess swimming there
Still a virgin and able to be wished upon.
