Wishes Twisted Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Wishes Twisted

Surfaced twisted wishes.
Unconsciously made.
And postured.
With an effective clownish delivery.
Diminishing the gloss of a greatness.
Fading away on a public stage.

Highlighted so bright is a thoughtlessness.
Presented and accepted to represent,
The best there is to offer...
A predicament beyond ridiculous.
Although allowed and followed,
By those amused yet willing to defend...
Their distance kept,
From the seriousness of this defect.

How and why,
Can such a representation not embarrass.
Or found to harass,
Anyone who has mental stability.
Yet privately admit,
Wishing the obviousness of it...
Could be hidden and kept not to detect.
But these days this to wish,
Becomes more difficult to do.
Without losing the value,
Of what one wants more to protect.

"Even if I tried.
I still would not understand,
The reality of any of this.
No longer can I call it nonsense.
Without being accused,
Of being either a nonconformist...
A maverick or unpatriotic.
And I refuse to be one crazed! "

-You...
Are among the few who are blessed.
At least you have 'something' kept,
To value and protect to keep to yourself.-

"Oh?
And what is that? "

-Your sanity.
Kept not to have it noticed.
And with your mouth closed,
No one would know or suspect...
Your thoughts to have are yours alone.
With a mind to know has found a home.
That's a blessing.-

"And you?
What about 'your' mind? "

-It told me I needed to get some fresh air.
So I agreed and left it at home.
You have no idea how long it took me,
To learn how to do that.
Try it.
The benefits are incredible.
And when I am out walking about,
Not a wish do I have is twisted.
Or thought to question,
The obviousness of what I observe.-
