Work Away A Life Poem by Joel Genter

Work Away A Life

Working, working, working
A man's life wastes away
As though he is a slave
to a job and to money.

His life is but a goal
Of lies and deceit
That money equals happiness
And an opportunity to be great.

Years from now he realizes
When he sits without a purpose
That his life was but a waste
And that all that he had earned
No longer belongs to him.

What a life he would have lived
Had he known the truth
That his life is not his own
To slave away and make himself known
And to do anything he pleased.

The fact that we belong to God is not well received
But we cannot comprehend the power in his name.
Because it is contrary to everything we've believed.
and constantly call on things to receive the blame.

The lives we live can be worth it
And benefit God's kingdom
If we set ourselves aside
From the world and it's evil morals.
To receive the love of God
And forgiveness through his name
All we have to do is believe
and not in our transgressions remain.
