theres a world outside of mine
but you know, sometimes i forget
to stop and take a look around
i get so caught up in 'me' (and yet)
theres a world apart from 'me'
that has problems of it's own
and more than likely doesn't care
about the heartaches 'I' have known
silly as it sounds - it's true
just the other side of 'me' - theres 'you'
your world, your life, your tears
your hopes, your dreams, your fears
it would behoove me now and then i'm sure
to take some notice of you there
to lend an ear from time to time
and show you that i care
theres a world outside my world
but i tend to close my eyes
it's so much easier to ignore it
than to listen to it's cries.
(2004)
You're almost 50 and you're just realizing this now? Better late than never to stop being self-absorbed. Somehow I think it's just a passing thought and you're not really going to go out of your way to do anything differently.
