Wrong Thing Poem by gershon hepner

Wrong Thing

Leonard Cohen says that Layton
used to ask him: Are you sure
you’re doing the wrong thing? Like Satan,
he asks him since he’s insecure,
but those who aren’t know there’s no way
to know if you are doing right
in spite of what you think or say,
and keep such questions out of sight.

Inspired by a poem by Leonard Cohen in his “Book of Longing”:

Layton’s Question

Always after I tell him
what I intend to do next,
Layton solemnly inquires:
Leonard: are you sure
you’re doing the wrong thing?
