Yes, But Why?

I know we've chosen seperate paths
and those paths may never cross again,
I know I've taken twists and turns
While you've stared blindly straight ahead

I understand Im different now
and you that you can't handle that,
I understand you don't approve
and I can live with that

But this is what i dont understand,
This is what I don't get;
Why you had to officiate
That you disowned our past

Why you threw back all my kindness,
All my patience, all my thoughts,
Why you spat on all that effort
That even a weak friendship costs

I was aware that we were done,
You no longer care for me,
And I in turn can honestly say
I don't give a damn about you

So you can burn all of those letters,
Erase your memories,
Dissassociate yourself from me,
Even whisper meanness behind my back

But just know that it was cold and cruel,
What you did to me,
Just know that Im the stronger one
Who has a sense of who they are
And who they want to be

Poem of the Day

poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
