Yes, I'd love to write a poem,
To find out where it goes
And then its verses tweek and trim
With edits that I chose...
Count syllables and punctuate
And check words how they're spelt
And finally to celebrate
The feelings that I felt!
To change a phrase that better fits,
To switch verse three to four,
To struggle and to use my wits
And pray a little more...
Perhaps to please God with some rhyme
That causes Him to smile,
Yes, that would truly be sublime
And make it worth my while...
I know He reads my work, of course,
Of that there's little doubt,
As long as I uphold His laws,
He helps me sort things out...
That's why I'm still a poet, friends,
Thank God for syllables,
In fact, the wonder never ends,
Just like God's miracles!
