Yesterday Poem by Edward Kofi Louis

Yesterday

I will forgive you for yesterday,
Because you are pale as pale could be;
Your pictures hang on the wall and,
I will forgive you for yesterday.
Food for the winter over there,
Down to your knees like the army of rats;
The walls do have ears.
Mad and fear,
Two eyes of flame;
Down to your knees like the army of lizards.
It was only the cat,
It was only the fish,
It was only the girl;
This had made you to whistle mirthful to excess.
Of the rising moon,
So dark that it was;
The summer and the autumn had been so wet.

A shivering shock,
The wind had blown a gale all day long;
Like the starving poor in the Sahara.
Love, valour, wit;
I will forgive for you yesterday.
The triple leaves,
As softly green as emerald;
this is the last rose of the summer.
My fragrant path adorning,
Love and valour wandered;
Down on his knees like the army of elephants!
I will forgive you for yesterday,
But i will move on ahead of time;
With the rising moon to guide my paths,
Like your pictures all over the wall.
