You Found Your Answer Poem by Jayne McGaughey

You Found Your Answer

Rating: 5.0

You found the broken glass
as it walked beneath your feet

Found the answer in the gutter feed
broke your heart against the wall
it bruised as it sunk
to the bottom gaining rust

You found your voice in the ocean
trusting only birds with your story
the waves scared you half to death
as you ran out
they ran back

Told you to find your desires
but you only found your faults in the fire
you wished on a million stars
but they told you to go back inside
to wait till you had grown up awhile

You hail from heaven
but we found you on the highway
collecting dust
like a sinking submarine

Told you, go to hell
oh, join me
you said I'm wasting here
why don't you fill me up
oh, burn me

Questions fall like flowers
as the lips press on
the cherry blossoms come
waiting winters out
some people come to leave
but stay
counting winter as an excuse
but they're really counting you

Walk into the bathroom on morning
images smear like paint
you can't seem to recognize your face

Said a day like this would never come
you say this but you're laughing
why can't you understand the blood is bleeding
you say honey hush
we'll know enough in the morning

And as you walk to the bed
the broken glass walks beneath you

You found your answer
