You Know Me Better
You know me better than I know myself
So how should I engage you?
You know my thoughts, my desires
So well that my expressions seem
Needless, even whiney, as from a spoiled child.
How am I to be insistent, masterful?
You are in the sparrow that sits briefly
On the window seal. You are in the wind
That rustles the trees. You are in the blood
Pumping through my unreliable brain.
Being without you is even more devastating
Because I cannot be without you, my love.
If you should abandon me how much
Would I lose? It's terrifying to think.
I believe my soul would follow you away.

Hi Tiger - Anyone from Memphis - Home of the King - has my vote. I like being the first to comment because it means my comment is unbiased (by other comments) and straight from the heart. V 1 Who knows you that well - a former lover - a Deity - or those who enter your mind through you poetry? We all have needs Cat - and we need to espress them even if the recipient of our 'Expressions of Need' seem whiney (lovely word) . V 2 The object of your poem really is 'in your face' which to me is spooky. 'Sparrow on the window' 'Wind in the trees' 'Inhabitant of your blood stream' with you 24/7 - no escape - no privacy - no release. V 3 This raises another spectre - that a 24/7 absence is even worse than the overpowering 24/7 presence. The emotive word LOVE in line two gives us a clue that this all pervading presence is another person who absence would be too hard to bear. 'I cannot be without you' - 'I believe my soul would follow you away'. You paint a dilemma - Cat - which many of us face form time to time. my advice would be that only you can solve the dillema of which of the two evils to chose - if you have a choice.
