You'Re My Son Poem by Linda Barnes

You'Re My Son

The moment you were here
Was the first time that I loved
So completely, without fear
Of losing this love that I feel

During your life you questioned
Whether you were abandoned
By a mother you held so near
Through a heart that felt broken

I was there throughout those years
Perhaps not enough to calm your fear
Never abandoned as you think
Just not there every minute

I saw you grow from child to a man
Always proud of your plans
And the path that you chose
Just wanted you to know

A first born is always special
Speaking as your mother
Do not believe for one second
My love for you, I never questioned

For those lost years, I regret
Not being with you every moment
When a child needs to be nurtured
To be unafraid of their future

You're my son whom I love
No matter the costs we both would bear
Finding endurance, we would sustain
This love between Mother and Son
