Your Children An Extension Poem by Francis Duggan

Your Children An Extension

Your children an extension of your ego it does seem
For to know that our genes will live on is good for our self esteem
That our genes should outlive us our sense of immortality
That's how it would seem or it does seem to be.

But the facts tell us so and facts never lie
That like all other life forms we are born to die
And for many of us our genes through our offsprings and their offsprings live on
Though the gift of life from us to the forever gone.

Our children are an extension of our egos through our sexual drive
That some of our ego in the offsprings we give life to survive
When amongst the bosom of our Earth Mother we lay
For each one of us a last night and last day.

The Reaper does not respect wealth or power or fame
The president, the monarch and the pauper he treats as the same
To his mighty scythe every life form must fall
There is a last night and last day for us all.
