Farther Poem by adam stevens

Farther

magic mixed with shame
and I don't know who to blame
What if it's no one's fault?
What if it's random and I've got farther to go?
What if the finish line is a trick?
As thin, as insubstantial as a candle's wick?
Sights, sounds, nauseating smells, a frightening din
and still farther to climb, farther to find,
punishing purpose, mind-numbing plans,
and I've got still farther to go.
