There seems to be a chance for a fresh start,
For the first time an American president,
Has not said
The interests of America come first,
But has extended his hand
Of friendship to all nations
To face the difficult taskes.
For the first time,
We have an opportunity
To set past differences
Forget how it was
but of hope of what may be.
For the first time,
The most powerful man on earth,
Is asking questions of the future
who we are
and working together
What we can be.
For the first time,
A man steps forward
To some the first black president
To some the first president with Muslim heritage
To most a beacon of hope.
When such a man
For the first time
Offers us a hope
will we be able to overcome
Our prejudice and answer
or remain suspicious and silent.
