No More Words Poem by Dónall Dempsey

No More Words

He curls up on the couch
like a tumbled over
...I don’t know...
(worried?)
Question mark!
She leaps to her feet
like an excited exclamation point.

Every thing they shout
at each other
seems to be in
“Quotation Marks! ”
“Hello...? ”

She goes into
a parenthesis
refuses to come out.
He sulks
in the brackets

she had left him in.
It’s all been just
wordswordswordswithoutany
: punctuation.
When they speak again
she distinctly uses a lower case voice and a plain font
not that extravagant Monotype Corsiva
she always talks to him in.

He leaves the capital
out of her name
and the Italic he always think of her in.
It looks like
their infinitive
is about to
somehow be
split.
