I've been
beating my head

that we could have worked
worse than
your fantasy

my soul needs a break

i looked for you
in that hopeful dreading way
i looked for you

Thomas Lawrence Biography

I used to write often as a young teen. I'd bicycle down to the great south bay, work my way down between the bulkhead and the cattails, and enter my secret spot by the water. Sometimes I would write until it got too dark to see. I never saved anything very long, nor ever, ever showed it to anyone. Not so much because i was shy, which i was, or because i didn't think it was any good, which i didn't, but because it would have changed it, like a secret being whispered from ear to ear. And because once a poem or a story is read by others it belongs to them as well, and these were mine. I paid a price for my secrets. I often still do. So, this is my attempt to change all that. Late but hopefully not too late. And I put them out in a big way, on the internet for anyone to see; hiding in plain sight. I'll not tell anyone they are there of course, they'll have to find me by accident.)

Langston Hughes Is My Favorite Poet

Langston Hughes
is my favorite poet
though I can't relate
much
to the black experience,
talk gangsta,
or feel the need to,
shave my white head

and I'll admit,
I much prefer reading
chinaski
or neruda

but Langston Hughes
man, I love that name
Langston Hughes
you know, he can write
