John W. McEwers Poems

Mammals lay no eggs outside of their bodies because they lay them inside of their bodies.
Marsupials carry babies around in sacks like babies are groceries from the corner carry-out.
Fish passively lay eggs in giant areas so that just about anything that wants to can attempt to germinate.
Birds make nests.
...

I lived through Iraq and Vietnam.

My lawn is mine to mow and mine alone.
...

Before we even start
have that tie in your hand.
this won't work
unless you commit.
...

I remember when I was a kid,
I ate worms after a rain
I mixed dog food in my ice cream
I played with frogs
...

I can still picture the old theater's gold marquee
thrusting over the sidewalk, a brittle matinee ticket,
and in a dim enough room-smell the seats,
the satiny wash of crushed chocolate and sweat,
...

Go ahead, I can take the pain
of you leaving.
You did it before
will do it again sometime
...

First of the month,
your love is due, she says.
So she can buy all the candy
the kids want and take them
...

So it goes like this,
Guy meets girl.
Guy buys flowers.
Girl puts them in a vase.
...

If diamonds could talk
they would say her name
when we meet
for coffee on a blind date
...

If there was one thing
just one
that I would like to be
it would be nice
...

A little less shaking
she said, and a little
more making love.
...

My heart tracks time at odd intervals
Like I remember it was eleven bread loaves ago
that I noticed this woman so sweet.
Six packs of ham since my heart skipped a beat,
...

Would you live inside me
if I cleaned the place up?
If I worked out on a schedule
and junky foods I gave up?
...

Some stuff's gross like
melty ice cream
that sticks to your hand
where it looks weird to lick
...

The Captain calls noon
and poor boys, midshipmen, run
and up the coast a ways
where it cuts into the sea
...

I'm a loose-lipped doe-eyed four-eyed rustlin' bustlin'
21st century man
who's two-toned mind-blown shark-skin big-boned
baby has left him
...

If only you loved me,
you'd be able to see
that my heart only beats
when your lying with me
...

John W. McEwers Biography

I have two kids, and I spent a summer in England. I love the outdoors. Poetry isn't my life, it is my oxygen. My favorite author is Tom Clancy. A close second would be Virginia Woolf. I'm trying to get better, and would like to collect my poems into a collection for publication. Any comments would be great! ! ! R.I.P. Robert UPDATE: In hindsight, Robert was not a very good friend. Addendum: I've learned to enjoy the indoors too.)

Mammals lay no eggs outside of their bodies because they lay them inside of their bodies.

Birds make nests.
Where does John fit in?

Snakes leave their skin on the ground because they are comfortable without it.
Trees leave leafs to die around them to fertilize.
Sheep need their wool to be taken from them or else they'll get too hot.
Sharks have too many teeth to keep.
What does John have to lose?

At the bottom of the ocean are giant squid like the kraken.
At the tops of Sequoia live exotic rodents.
In the middle of mountains are either precious metals or dragons.
And in outer space there could be aliens or angels.
What is habitat for John?
