2. Demon Poem by Daniel Cobb

2. Demon

DEMON:
'MONSTER IN MY MIND'
Don't come too close to me;
No telling what I might do.
Cuz I'm not who I seem to be,
And I'd hate to hurt you.
Lost in the dark, all I can see
Are demons staring back at me.
There used to be a light in me;
Shadows are all I see lately.

There's a monster in my head,
Trying to break free,
To make sure all my dreams are dead,
And it looks just like me.
I know something's wrong;
It just doesn't belong,
But she's been there all along;
I can't stop her - she's far too strong.

I keep her locked up inside,
So she will never get away;
Even though I tried,
Somehow, she escaped anyway.
I must face myself alone;
I have to do it on my own,
Fighting the shadow of my soul,
Or I will never be whole.

I hope it's not too late to pray,
Never meant for it to end this way.
We fight our demons, yet they stay,
Not sure we want them to go away.
Now I'm fighting with my shadow;
I don't know if she's friend or foe.
Only you can save me from
What I have become.

'HAUNTED HEART'
Your mind is weak;
It won't take much
To break your heart
With just one touch.
I'll haunt your heart
And stalk your soul.
The truth you seek
Won't make you whole.

I'll blind your mind
And chain your brain.
I think you'll find
It drives you insane.
I'll make you cower
Before my dark power.
I'll bring you to your knees,
Do with you as I please.

Don't mess with me;
I'll kill you too!
Trust me - you'll see;
You don't want to!
I'll crush your dreams
And make you cry;
So let me hear you scream
Just before you die.

May your precious prayers
Become nightmares,
And all your peace
Come to a cease.
Dreams meet their death
With but a breath;
And when you die,
No one will cry.

'THE DEMONS FEAST TONIGHT'
My path in life seemed dark to me;
I wandered around aimlessly,
Hiding from things I can't control,
Within the shadows of my soul.

Voices whispered to me,
But no one was there I could see.
If only a light would appear
To make the darkness disappear.

Feeling darkness taking over,
There's no one left to save me here.
I lost all I have ever held dear;
Now I’m blinded by my fear.

There were demons in the darkness,
Staring into my soul,
Waiting for me in the shadows,
To consume it whole.

'DEMON WITHIN'
I thought I had the evil demon bound;
After all these years, freedom it has found.
The fiend's been set free from her chains,
To ruin my life and cause untold pains.

I'll find a way to seal the door,
Just like I have so many times before.
I have to send it back to hell,
This demon that I know so well.

Feeding on my fear and devouring my doubt,
The demon inside me wants to get out.
I've been so blind I could not see
I met the enemy, and she is me.

This demon inside me
Wants to break free.
Gradually, I'm giving in
To the demon within.

'I'M NOT YOUR ANGEL'
I'm an angel or a demon;
Which one do you want me to be?
You know, of course,
It all depends on how you treat me.

Whenever I walk by,
You start to sweat, but don't know why.
I could tempt you with desire,
And set your heart on fire.

Are you the answer to my prayers,
Or something from my worst nightmares?
You look like an angel, but it's hard to tell
Whether you're from heaven or hell.

You used to mean the world to me;
I thought our love was meant to be.
Things aren't the way they were before;
I'm not your little angel anymore.

'THE LONG DARK HALL'
As I walk down a long dark hall,
I see shadows on the wall,
Watching me with their evil glare,
And I can feel death in the air.

I think I'm lost in this dark place;
I close my eyes and hide my face.
It's like I'm trapped in a bad dream;
I curl up in a ball and scream.

In my head, I still hear the screams
Of tortured souls and dying dreams.
These memories rest in my mind,
But I want to leave them all behind.

There are demons all around me;
What would I do if they found me?
Where can you go - what do you do;
When the one you fear most is you?

'DEMONS IN THE DARKNESS'
Into this dark world you've drifted;
Now the drawbridge has been lifted.
What lies beyond the castle walls,
Within these haunted halls?

Dark angels whisper in your ear;
They tell you what you what to hear.
Like a dream from a fantasy,
They show you what you want to see.

Hidden in the shadows, they wait;
They use the light of truth as bait.
Now you're trapped in this nightmare;
The demons use dreams to lure you there.

A look of fear is on your face;
You must escape this haunted place.
They'll lock you up without a key;
Then you’ll never be free.

'DEMON OF YOUR DREAM'
I'm a phantom - I'm a ghost;
I'm whatever scares you the most.
I'm the demon in your dreams;
I'm whatever makes you scream.

I'm the monster under your bed;
I'm a voice inside your head.
I'm the footsteps down the hall;
I'm a shadow on the wall.

You can run, but you can't hide;
From the fear you find inside.
Deep down, you know it's true;
I'm coming after you.

You can't escape me;
You can't get away.
You'll never be free;
I'm here to stay.

'STEP INTO THE SHADOWS'
Step into the shadows;
Leave the light behind.
Enter through the doorway
Hidden in your mind.

Only a mortal
May pass through the portal.
Let down your defenses;
Just obey your senses.

Look in my eyes,
And hold my hand.
Don't turn back now;
Soon you will understand.

You're under my control;
So say goodbye to your soul.
Don't fear the fall;
Let go and end it all.

'THIEF IN THE NIGHT'
I can’t control myself,
Or stop the corruption.
I’ve become the agent
Of my own destruction.

I'll fight this demon
That possessed my soul,
Hiding in my mind,
Trying to take control.

Breaking into my heart,
Like a thief in the night,
You entered my mind,
Staying out of sight.

No, this is wrong;
I can be strong!
This can't be right;
I have to fight!
