A Downer To Dominance Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Where is all of this hatred,
Spewing of division...
And undeniable increase,
Of racial conflict coming from?

"Hmmm.
Good question.
Let's see.
Could it be...
Coming from the new born babies.
Laying in their cribs sweetly sleeping? "

No.
Don't be ridiculous.
That's too far from a possibility.


"Well...
How about the birds and the bees.
Flowers pollinated.
Or frogs sitting on lily pads.
Maybe someone who sneezes,
While walking quietly in the park.
Suffering from allergies?
It could happen.
Especially if this is being done,
With an obviousness to inflict their bigotry."

I think it's coming from people,
Who intentionally want to create division.
And seeking for themselves to get attention.
Instigated by the very one,
In a position of leadership.
With this to do to feed an ego.
To delude a wish to be idolized and worshipped.

"Naw!
That's too way out.
You know...
Something made for those into TV and movies.
What about...
People who go to flea markets,
Looking for bargains.
Only to discover those same items,
Can be found in any dollar store."

Hmmm...
You may be onto something.
People do seem to be easily upset,
To give them reason to blame the government.
And the government then blames,
The immigrants we depend upon...
On a selling of cheap stuff.
At a higher price that isn't worth it.
Making the people lose their jobs.
With no money left,
To be as lazy as they can get.
Then to say all people of color,
Are beginning to think,
They are better in all sports.
Including hockey!

"That's it.
People are losing that 'image'.
That dominance.
That...
'See me.
Ain't I terrific' presence.
Wow.
That kind of feeling to delude,
Can be a downer."

Tell me about it.
And I know folks who today,
Feel subservient to others who admit...
How insecure they are,
When trying to impress...
People expecting to be oppressed by them.
I thank God everyday,
That I smoked crack just once.
And did not get addicted!
