A Friend Poem by Paul WilsonSuffield

A Friend

Do you know that feeling late at night
When the kids are asleep, not a movement in sight?
Your sitting in your chair with the tele on low
Rejoice in the peace, that any moment may go.
If you’re a mum or a dad you will know what I mean
But when you’re single, like hell it may seem.
That the peaceful moment when the kids are at rest
Is like a prison sentence, maybe life at best.
You can’t go out because money is tight
The slightest noise does give you a fright.
Now you don’t need marriage, or a life filled with lust
Just someone who will talk and the monotony to bust.
Its hard to imagine this kind of life
If you’re happy in a couple, or man and wife.
It gets to the point where your life you would end
And all for the sake of having a friend.
