A Knock On The Door Poem by Randy McClave

A Knock On The Door

While I sat alone on the pew in Church today
Getting ready to listen to the Pastor to teach and then pray,
Knowing that today was an exciting day for us one and all
For two of our Church members had the call.
Today two members were going to be baptized
Today they were giving their life to Christ, their souls revised,
And as our Pastor stood in front to start the service
He was excited and joyful and not a bit nervous.
Then as usual we began to sing a hymn
The Pastor's wife who sat behind me suddenly told me to open the door for him,
I then asked her who was I suppose to open what door for
She said there was a knock on the Church's front door.
So, I stood up and got off the pew
And I went to open the Church's door as I was requesting to do,
Then when I opened the door I was greeted with only fresh air
Then I looked left and right and their was no one standing there.
I then returned to my pew and I again sat down
The pastor's wife then greeted me with a sad frown,
She was sad that there was no one outside wanting to come inside
Hopefully to listen to the preaching and seeing two people baptized.
The service continued with our praising and our singing
All through the neighborhood our voices were ringing,
Then the two joyful souls were baptized in front of us for the Lord
Heaven one day indeed will be their final reward.
Then unto other members we sang birthday and anniversary songs
Unto the heart of the people where those joyous feelings belongs,
Then when our pastor closed our service with an, "Amen"
I then heard a voice beside of me thanking me, for letting him in.
