A Never Ending War Poem by Nina Salazar

A Never Ending War

I was heartless before,
That feeling isn’t here anymore,
Something magical?
Maybe something diabolical?
Is something wrong with me?
There’s no more sadness anymore in me,
The war is finally over, but another one just begun.
I have to fight, I can’t run,
We’re all fighting for something new,
Everything seems to be on cue,
People dying and crying,
But still they are trying,
They’re all fighting for something better,
When there’s nothing left but hope,
Later they will all just have to cope,
We all know there is no guarantee,
The bad side of things, we can all see,
But we’re still fighting,
We’ll keep on trying.

Love is just one long and painful fight,
never ending, nothing in sight,
We’re all hoping for someone to show us the way,
Someone who will stop this fight someday.
Someone who will prove us wrong,
Make us believe love’s a never ending song,
And tell us love is actually a friend;
Someday this fight might end.
Still, people keep fighting for what’s right in their eyes,
Though everything we hear now is a lie.
The world might stop waiting for us to decide,
But we’ll just keep dying inside,
Fighting for love, or against it?
I don’t know, I admit.
We all want things to be right,
No need to fight,
Is life worth living without love?
Is life what we’re fighting for?
I don’t know, but we’re still fighting,
We’ll keep on trying.
