Twenty-Second Death. (The Man) Poem by Nina Salazar

Twenty-Second Death. (The Man)

When there’s nothing left here,
A mere sound to hear,
A shadow walking with a gun,
And you’re too busy to listen as your head tells you to run.

You decide to listen, and start to run,
Running as fast as you can, getting away from the man with the gun,
The man follows, your limbs start to ache,
You’re hoping it’s a dream, longing to wake.

Looking for the nearest place to hide,
You’re wishing it wouldn’t be the gun by your side,
The man sighs, and holds up the gun,
And you tell him: “go ahead, have your fun”.

You feel fear through your veins,
You see a smile, and you feel sudden pain,
The last you remember is the pain in your chest,
You were so tired, but just couldn’t rest,
You saw the man in a shade of gray,
Then everything started to fade away.

Putting the corpse in a sack,
The man ran away, without looking back,
There was nothing left, no blood, not a hint,
No one saw the man ever since.
