No words can express the feelings
The hate, the pain, the fear
Its hard to put on a brave face
When you know the end is near
They told you it won’t be long
But its hard to understand
Why a loved one is being taken away
When you only want to hold their hand
You feel them slipping away
And want to cry, but can’t
Because you told them you’d be brave
But its breaking up your heart
You can feel their pain inside
And standing by their bed
Makes you feel so hopeless
As you softly kiss their head
They look up at you in confusion
And ask why it’s them who has to die
You struggle to find an answer
Because you are also asking why?
You whisper words of reassurance
Tell them it will be ok, but you know for sure
That they know as well as you do
It won’t be long before
They’ll no longer be beside you
Snuggling up against your knee
The world will crash down around you
Because it’s them you want to see
See them smiling up at you lovingly
See them laughing so happily
Even see them crying when they’re lonely
Full of life and love and glee
So heed this solemn message
And tell them that you are here
And that you’ll always love them
When you know your loved ones are near
For time is passing quickly
And you never know for sure
What tomorrow’s fate will bring you
Whether it will be you crying out “What for”
Because no words can express the feelings
The hate, the pain, the fear
Its hard to put on a brave face
When you know the end is near
