A Single Poem Poem by Kate Wiley

A Single Poem

Rating: 4.9

Many poets only have one work
Known and remembered after they are gone
The Mona Lisa overshadows all
And many one-time sculptors stand alone.

If a thousand poets were to write one poem,
A thousand musicians one lovely song
Then millions would enjoy and be fulfilled...
A single write can feed the ages long.

So if you write one piece that speaks the truth
And satisfies the need for finer art
Then count yourself to be one of the few
Who keep tradition-you have done your part.

pitifully, most need to write a milion poems before they could reap the power of their real selves. mona lisa was perhaps leonardo's 20000th painting..

The true poet must always be willing to give him or herself away in words. If even one song survives, the gift was well worth giving.Beautiful write, Kate. Warmest regards, Sandra

A nice suggestion. I am glad you have chosen to write more than this poem. My experience is that there are all kinds of people with all kinds of different tastes; consequently there might be 29 people who each pick a different poem of yours and consider that the one to know and remember you by. Right now this is the only poem of yours I have read so far. I will leave it at that so I can remember you by this one - until later that is when I will want to satisfy my need to read another one of your poems. I will have 28 more chances of finding one that will help me much better.

Kate, I keep trying...this poem pushes me to write again and again and... maybe one day someone will remember and say 'didn't she write.... You know, she always wrote from the heart! Dorothy

Oh the wonderful truth of this and as Sandra already noted writing just one such memorable poem would be enough reward for most of us. Very well done thank you.
