A Sour Dream Poem by Syed Mizbahuddeen

A Sour Dream

Giver of sadness and remorse
Granter of joy and repentance
Owner of all that was, is and will be
Here, I hold everything
Inside, all that you've bestowed upon me
A million complaints and much more
Inside, hopelessness so permanent
That a disbeliever they deem me
Yet, what about the vision so desperate
That rises unto the sky
The cries that for sure have reached thee
The innocent times where I'd plead thee
What about the prayer
I made when I was a child
When I didn't know any better
This for sure I'll ask thee
I'll die in expectancy
Give me an answer for thy sake
Why do you act like you will give
Make me expect and then take
It all away, for your sake, I'm weak, don't test me
Anymore, I'm frayed, have mercy
My Lord, they all detest me
I'm afraid, now, when no one hears me
Now, don't turn a blind eye to me
Not an angel, no, I am me
A fallen sepoy, a lost key
An unanswered prayer, a failure by all means
An extinguished lamp, a sour dream.
