A Very Perfect Traditional Turkish Household Poem by Tariq Ahmed

A Very Perfect Traditional Turkish Household

I sat on my camel and for fourteen hours I rode
Arriving into the welcoming arms of a most hospitable abode
Engaged with the kindness, generosity and warms of a Turkish family abode
Virtuous sincerity defined by a cultural philosophical Muslim code

My every need taken care of to the finest detail
Supported, respected and looked after without curtail
I ate for Konya knowing no limits and without the need to exhale
Fed the finest cuisine and home grown produce to every avail

Full of joy and happiness in the company so fine
Visiting every important spiritual site of the city so sublime
In my passenger's seat I enjoyed the essence of the city able to recline
Energised by the love of all things pure, perfect and their sign

A joyous gang together they have travelled so far
Ahmet, Ayşe, Berat, Zehra, Hatice and Şeyda they are
I wish them all every success and their brightest rising star
Humbling a foreign man, I for ever say to you, teşekkürler

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I went to one of my student's home is Konya in July 2011 - and spent time with a wonderful family, who made me feel so at home - not only was the time spiritual in terms of seeing the final resting place of Rumi, but I was treated and felt like a prince... It was a great feeling, with endless happy memories to treasure
